Understanding your strengths is not always easy...

As working professionals, many of us struggle to clearly identify our strengths. We often ask ourselves what we are actually good at and where we should invest our energy.

One simple way to find your strengths is by first understanding your talents.

A talent is something that comes naturally to you. When you consciously invest time, learning, and effort into that talent, it slowly turns into a strength. This part is always in our control.

The most important talent you can develop is the ability to develop your own talent. That requires discipline. And discipline over a long period of time needs grit. Grit is what helps you show up every day, even when progress feels slow.

Once you clearly understand your strengths, it becomes easier to find the right role, the right work, and the right direction in your career.

Let me share a simple example.

If you are below average at coding but spend a lot of time forcing yourself to improve, the results may still not match your expectations. The effort is high, but the output remains limited. On the other hand, if you are naturally good at managing business processes or operations and you invest the same time in sharpening that skill, the improvement and impact will be much higher.

This does not mean other skills cannot be improved, but recognizing the areas you are naturally inclined towards helps you grow faster and with more confidence.

This realization became very clear to me during one of my sessions with Sawan Kapoor.

The lesson I took away is simple. Know your talents. Build discipline around them. Over time, they become your strengths and guide you towards the right fit.
